What a soil scientist does...
Ever ask yourself what a soil scientist does? If so, we have a few answers for you!
Studying the Cycling of Water through the Soil

Annually, more than 375 trillion gallons of water seep into the soil to be filtered before recharging the groundwater. 375,000,000,000,000 gallons of water… how much is that? A swimming pool the size of North Carolina would have to be 450 feet deep to hold all of the water.
Protecting this essential resource is a one of the many jobs soil scientists perform everyday.
Urban Soil Science

Soil scientists and landscape architects were part of the team that conducted an environmental restoration and award winning design for the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City. The team designed the largest known urban stormwater bioretent-ion system which occupies 24-acres in the heart of Central Park. Eight ball fields and lawn were built over the bio-retention system. The Great Lawn serves as the primarily outdoor concert venue in the Borough of Manhattan.
Stormwater Management on Golf Courses

Soil scientists are essential to the understanding of erosion control and stormwater management for new land developments. Water quality regulations necessitate new innovative non-structural approaches to removal of pollutants from the stormwater. Soil scientists were part of the multidisciplinary team that redesigned and engineered the Preston and Prestonwood Golf Course in Cary, NC.
