Soil scientists work daily with North Carolina farmers, helping them produce more food on less land at a lower cost. For decades our research programs have been investigating the basic aspects of soil and plant interactions in agricultural systems, with an end goal of improving fertilizer use efficiency. A greater understanding of rates, placement and timing of fertilizers have reduced agriculture’s contribution to water pollution.
